in the bathroom...AGAIN!!

(click on the image to see it properly)

So...I found myself in the bathroom with my camera...AGAIN!! This time, the Overture bathroom on the bottom floor where we teach our dance lessons. I snuck in early one time before practice. I shot all these pics in 20 minutes. Not sure if I like the cascading effect or not.

This rendition is still rough around the edges. Not completed, and there's a few obvious lines I need to iron out. But it's already past my bedtime and I need to get to bed :)

Lichtenstein style 2

Ok, so I've been working on Gina's print for Rubin's. I see some changes I want to make, but here's the first go:
I had fun adding the twirling squares in the background. Shana wants this uber-huge. So...wow!

Natalia's catalyst

So I've been researching my grandparents lately, their births until just after their wedding. My relatives have been asking me what started this new interest. Truthfully, this interest is far from new, I've always been interested in their stories, but one recent event might've been the catalyst:

I was photographing my new friend Natalia and her cute horse Scooter. It was a drizzly day, but we made the most of it.

She brought Scooter into a pasture that the horses never went in, and when I turned around to change a lens, I saw six horses lined up on the other side of the fence staring at us! One of them had one of those eye cover things on (like you wear when you're sleeping, but Natalia assured me that the horse can see thru it). It still looked like a blind horse was gawking too! And I could just see the look in all their eyes saying, "What craziness are you up to over there???" I instantly thought about my grandpa and all his horse stories.

I don't think I've blogged about this photoshoot yet, which is sad because I did it in July! I'm glad we pushed thru in spite of the drizzle. The drops added extra drama on Natalia's dress.

Let me tell you, it was amusing to see Natalia all dressed up walking around the horse stall - haha

Here's a few photos from the shoot. There were many good ones, but these were my favorites. :)

Lichtenstein style

So today I met with Shana and the owner of Rubin's Furnature (which I can see from my apartment window...) and we are going to collaborate on some work of mine to display in one of their showcases. Very exciting.

I have a handful of projects I'm working on, but crazy me always wants more, especially if it's photography related. Heck, if I have a mission I'm more apt to get something done :)

Shana wants a pop-culture kind of feel: either a Warhol-esque piece or maybe even Lichtenstein. Cool! Searching for a great photo to start with, of course I thought instantly of Gina, whom I pretty much used up an entire memory card just shooting her in New York City last March. Here's what I came up with:

Before:
After:

Well, this is a work in progress and I already see changes I'd like to make. fun fun! Isn't Photoshop great?

so cute and inspiring

Ok, this post has nothing to do with photography and everything to do with inspiration!

Last night I attended a free concert by the Madison Jazz Orchestra at the Overture Center. There was area to dance, and some of the songs were danceable. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed an older couple dancing near the side, but couldn't see them so well. Until my friend pointed out, "look at the older couple over there, she's in a wheelchair and he's dancing with her."

I looked closer and indeed, the woman was rocking her electronic wheelchair back and forth and the gentleman was holding her hand stepping back and forth. Occasionally she would spin her chair around in a circle.

And they weren't out there for just one song....no, no, but for many songs they were out there doing their thing like it was the most natural thing in the world. And I suppose it was :)

studio work

Last weekend I took modeling photos of M, a nice guy who's smile reminded me of Daniel Radcliff's, though I didn't tell that to him since he was an impressionable 17 year old who was already getting a lot of flack from his friends for getting into modeling. He probably didn't want to be compared to Harry Potter. I would but that's another post...

I took a quick shot of myself before he came to test my lights. I made a few modifications after taking this photo, but you can see my studio set up and my light from the 1960s. I don't have all the flashy equipment (that's a pun, get it??) but I do my best with the equipment I have. Slowly...I'll get more.

Bathroom Secret

Ok, so during a few of the weddings I shot this summer I found myself alone in the bathroom during a slow time of the night. And what do I do then? Self portraits naturally!

Here's a few bathroom self-ports from this summer:
Just now I realised all these photos are tilted to the right. I didn't do that on purpose. Uh, I mean, I did I did!
